Never Goin’ Back To P-Town
Copyright 2007 Gaunce/Mahone

Another shadow goes passin’ through the streetlight
Shimmerin’ shades of blue
As my mind wanders back to a simpler time
It drifts on back to you

I can see you standin’ in the doorway
See it like it’s yesterday
I grab my coat & your old guitar
We got another show to play

We got two hundred miles to go
If this rain never lets up
We won’t make it tonight
Like sheets of glass on the road up ahead
It keeps goin’ ‘till it’s out a sight

I close my eyes and drift off
40 winks and I can pull this through fine
If you never say a word
No one will know you’re out a time

I’m never goin back down to P-Town
I’m never goin’ back there no more
I’m never goin back down to P-Town
I’m never goin’ back there no more
No I’m never goin back down to P-Town
I’m never goin’ back there no more
I’m never goin back down to P-Town
I’m never goin’ back there no more
I’m never goin back down to P-Town
I’m never goin’ back there no more

I can see you standin’ in the doorway
See it like it’s yesterday
I grab my coat & your old guitar
We got another show to play

I’m never goin back down to P-Town
I’m never goin’ back there no more
I’m never goin back down to P-Town
I’m never goin’ back there no more
No I’m never goin back down to P-Town
I’m never goin’ back there no more
I’m never goin back down to P-Town
I’m never goin’ back there no more
I’m never goin back down to P-Town
I’m never goin’ back there no more

Description
Short Song Description:
My buddy Lou brought in the chord changes, I wrote the lyrics, vocal melody and played/produced except for guitar and dobro which he played.
Story Behind the Song:
P-Town is local slang for Portsmouth (VA). The lyrics were inspired by a friend of ours, a singer. After a particularly bad gig in Portsmouth he ranted the whole road trip about never playing in P-Town again. A few years ago he took his own life . . .
