YELLOW STAR

Downtown Sam was a one eyed man
Cooked over a fire in a fryin’ pan
And he asked me
Do these shoes make me look skinny?

He had a one legged dog & a two headed frog
And a gig at the cemetery sittin’ on a log
Spinning yarns with Larry, Lou, & Benny

He told me everything changes
But everything remains the same
And what’s upside down today
Tomorrow will be right again

Now Sam had a dame name of Mary Jane
Who smelled like bacon, cheese and methane
And Sam loved that girl
In spite of her aroma

They lived happy in a shack
Tire swing in the back
Somewhere south of the railroad track
In a town the freaks call Cataloma

He said one day he’d be famous
And he was gonna leave this place
And he and Mary Jane
Would go back to outer space

Life’s a merry go round
None of us are earthbound
All of us will move uptown
One day

Now they were never found but rumors abound
And tell about a swooshing sound
That shook the town so badly
It was frightening

All that’s left is his frog & his one legged dog
An empty shack, a pan, & a hollow log
As they all went up
Inside a bolt of lightning

Well he told me he would leave here
But said he’d never be too far
And sometimes I think I see his face
Smiling from a yellow star
